Track when money actually moves

A cash-flow table describes receipts and payments over a sequence of periods. The opening balance starts the first period. Each closing balance becomes the next opening balance. This makes timing visible in a way that a single annual total cannot.

Use one currency and a consistent basis for each row. A weekly table should use receipts and payments expected within that week. An invoice issued today is not necessarily cash received today. The tool does not connect to bank accounts or determine tax treatment; it models the figures you enter.

Check the carry-forward arithmetic

The rule is opening cash plus receipts minus payments equals closing cash. If opening cash is NPR 10,000, receipts are 15,000 and payments are 18,000, the closing balance is 7000. The next row starts at 7000 automatically.

If the next period receives 5000 and pays 9000, it closes at 3000. The combined two-period change is receipts of 20,000 minus payments of 27,000, a reduction of 7000 from the original 10,000. These two ways of checking the total should agree.

Choose periods that reveal the risk

A monthly row can hide a shortfall between an early bill and a late receipt. If timing matters, use shorter periods and place entries when they are expected to clear. A negative modeled closing balance identifies a gap under those assumptions. It does not tell you which funding or spending decision is appropriate.

  1. Set the starting cash and currency.
  2. Enter periods in chronological order.
  3. Add expected receipts and payments for each period.
  4. Review the first negative or unusually low balance.
  5. Export the table and compare it with actual records later.

Keep estimates separate from accounting records

Cash flow is not the same as profit. Borrowing, capital purchases, unpaid invoices and other items can affect cash and accounting results differently. This simple planner does not create accounts, reconcile statements or produce an audited financial report.

Use clear row labels, document uncertain receipts and test an alternate timing scenario when helpful. Save on this device is optional and uses browser storage, which can be cleared. Export a backup and retain the underlying records. When actual money arrives or leaves, update the figures and investigate differences rather than assuming the original forecast remains accurate.
